An Eastern Kentucky constable was arrested Sunday, accused of assaulting his ex-wife because she hadn’t done the dishes.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Owsley County Constable Carl Smith, 67, was charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
According to a Kentucky State Police citation, Jessica Smith said Carl Smith has come into the house and starting cursing loudly because the dishes and other housework had not been done.
Jessica Smith told officers that Carl Smith shoved her to the point of her falling down.
Although the two are no longer married, Carl Smith said he allowed Jessica Smith and two children to live in the house during recent cold weather.
Although Jessica Smith said she had been in a violent relationship with Carl Smith for years, she refused to pursue an emergency protective order.
Carl Smith denied assaulting his ex-wife. Carl Smith did say that Jessica Smith was supposed to help do work around the house but had refused.
