How gas prices have changed in Kentucky in the last week
Gas prices fell slightly on average this week, sitting 37 cents lower than they were at this time last year.
Oil production in the U.S. reached a new all-time high, according to a GasBuddy analysis of Energy Information Administration data. Refinery utilization in the Midwest also increased this week, signaling lower prices could be on their way for drivers in Illinois and surrounding states.
Gas prices have been elevated in the region since an ExxonMobil refinery was shut down several weeks ago due to a power outage during storms. Exxon announced this week the facility was restarting operations.
Analysts still caution that rising tensions in the Middle East means the forecast through the remainder of the year is foggy with the potential to spike if conflict escalates.
Stacker compiled statistics on gas prices in Kentucky. Gas prices are as of August 9.
