56-year-old South Dakota man killed in wreck on Kentucky interstate

A 56-year-old South Dakota man died in a wreck on the Kentucky interstate Wednesday evening.

Here is what we know from the Kentucky State Police:

  • Kentucky State Police Post 11, London, responded to a fatal single-vehicle collision at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.
  • The accident occurred on Interstate I-75 at the 21-mile marker northbound in Whitley County.
  • A commercial vehicle, driven by 56-year-old David N. Nies of Sioux Falls, SD, was traveling northbound when he lost control.
  • The vehicle left the roadway, drove up an embankment, struck several trees, and overturned.
  • Nies succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office. The Whitley County Coroner’s Office notified Nies’ next of kin.
  • Assistance at the scene came from additional Post 11 personnel, Whitley County Ambulance Service, Whitley City Fire Department, and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.
