Ex-cop indicted for sexually assaulting homeless woman, Kentucky State Police say

A former Kentucky police officers was indicted Tuesday on charged he sexually assaulted a homeless woman while on-duty, Kentucky State Police said.
The Daviess County Grand Jury indicted a former Owensboro Police Officer for felonies related to a 2023 Kentucky State Police investigation.
Aleph G. Zavala, 35 of Owensboro was indicted for sodomy, 1st degree; strangulation, 1st degree and sexual abuse, 1st degree.
Kentucky State Police troopers launched an investigation on December 9, 2023 after allegations of sexual misconduct was reported involving an on-duty Owensboro Police Officer.
The complaint began on December 8, 2023, when Owensboro Police Department received a burglary alarm at U-Haul Storage in the 2800 block of W. Parrish Avenue, Owensboro.
Officers discovered a homeless female residing in one of the storage units, who had permission from the business owner. After the officers left the scene, the female alleged Zavala returned where he sexually assaulted her.
Zavala was arrested and lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro with a $100,000 full cash bond.
The investigation in continuing by Kentucky State Police.
