One person is dead and another was rescued when a kayak trip turned tragic for a Kentucky couple who set to be married in July.
WKYT News reports that the couple was kayaking on North Elkhorn Creek when the accident occurred near Great Crossing Park Wednesday night.
Officials from the Scott County Coroners Office say the couple was kayaking too close to a dam when their individual kayaks turned over and swept both of the kayakers underwater.
Crews were able to rescue after the woman, from Lexington, surfaced. The man, a 26-year-old from Georgetown, was submerged in the creek for a few minutes and was pulled from the water. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
